You don’t need a flashy website or a big marketing budget to win more work online. When someone needs an installer, they’ll usually search Google, compare a few businesses and choose the one that looks trustworthy.

If your business is easy to find and gives people confidence, you’re already giving yourself a better chance of getting a call.

  1. Tell people exactly what you do
Your homepage should quickly explain what you install, the areas you cover and how customers can contact you. If you fit garage doors in Nottingham, say so. The clearer you are, the easier it is for customers (and search engines) to understand your business.

  1. Make the most of your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing people see before they even visit your website. Double check that your phone number, opening hours and website are correct. Add photos of recent jobs and update them regularly. A profile that’s up to date will give customers reassurance that you’re a reliable expert.

  1. Write the way your customers search
Think about what you type into search engines, then consider what your customers would type in when searching for someone like you. They’re probably searching for phrases such as “VELUX roof windows repairs in Derby” or “VELUX roof window installers near me” – it’s highly unlikely they’ll be using industry jargon. Use everyday phrases naturally on your website, especially on service and location pages.

  1. Ask your previous customers for reviews
Anyone whose anyone wants to know what someone else’s experience was like before going ahead. A good review from a happy customer carries a lot of weight. Once you’ve finished a job, ask your customer if they’d mind leaving a quick Google review. You don’t need loads overnight – in fact, that might feel disingenuous, but a steady flow of recent reviews helps build the picture of your business for the next person who comes along.

  1. Keep your business details the same everywhere
Check your business name, address and phone number – you want them to be same across your website, Google Business Profile, Yell, Bing Places and any trade directories you use. Customer confusion creates friction so make it easy for them and search engines to connect all listings to the same business.

  1. Show off your portfolio
Photos of your work will instantly win trust. Upload pictures of completed jobs to your website and social media. Before-and-after photos, different styles and finished installations all help customers picture what you could do for them.

Start with the basics
You don’t have to tackle everything in one go. Pick one or two of these points and spend an hour improving them and build from there.

Being easy to find online is only half the job. Once people find you, make it easy for them to see what you do, trust your work and get in touch.
